Beyond 2025- Setting Credible Sustainability Goals for Long-Term Impact

Beyond 2025: Setting Credible Sustainability Goals for Long-Term Impact

BSR research on members indicated that roughly 35 percent of time-bound goals expire in 2025, and another 40 percent are pegged to 2030. As 2025 goals reach their expiration date and we evaluate progress toward those 2030 commitments, it’s time for many companies to reflect on what they’ve learned and start thinking about what’s next.

Green Bonds are Bib Business for Climate Investors by John Howell

Green Bonds are Big Business for Climate Investors

Can financial instruments such as green bonds and other sustainability-related products deliver enough financing for a multi-trillion-dollar energy transition? The cost of transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy seems fantastically astronomical. Current estimates of the capital needed to decarbonize the global economy and achieve net zero emissions by 2050 offer some eye-watering figures. They range from about $1 trillion to $9 trillion annually. So, based on those annual projections, a final price tag from now until 2050 could be anywhere between $30 trillion and $275 trillion. Reflecting on the ESG Industry’s Strong Foundation and Bright Future

In light of my forthcoming retirement at the end of the year, I am especially pleased to be included in this 30th anniversary issue of GreenMoney. It has been a tremendous privilege to be embedded in the evolution of ESG Investing for 50 years, first at ICCR and then at BTW. This is an occasion to look ahead at the ESG industry’s future. But first, let’s reflect on the foundation laid by investors since 1971. (Sept. 2022)

Good Greed

Since you’re reading the GreenMoney Journal it’s likely that you’ve already made the mental shift to sustainability, and if that’s the case, welcome! I believe that shift happens one mind at a time, one company, one technology, one university curriculum, one industry, one community at a time. Furthermore, I have never met a “former environmentalist.” (Summer 2010)

Achieving Zero in the Built Environment

Without a dramatic change in the way built environments are designed, constructed, and operated, the world has no chance of adequately addressing climate change. Architecture 2030 has spent over twelve years working with architects, designers and policymakers on programs and initiatives that will lead to zero emissions in the built environment by 2050. In 2014, I had the opportunity to present our “Roadmap to Zero Emissions” report, at COP21 in Paris, which sets out the country-specific international greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets needed to avert irreversible and devastating climate change. (Sept. 2016)
