ImpactAssets 2025 Impact Report: 15 years of driving capital for real world impact

ImpactAssets, the impact investing leader with a 15-year track record of mobilizing capital for good, released its 2025 Impact Report. The report showcases the firm’s evolution and expansion alongside the impact investing industry over the past decade and a half.

Since its founding in 2010, ImpactAssets has grown to more than $4.6 billion in assets under management (as of September 2025) and has directed capital to more than 1,500 private companies and funds driving meaningful impact.

As a leader at the forefront of the fast-growing $1.6 trillion impact industry, ImpactAssets has marked a significant milestone by expanding its capabilities to include a full-service impact investing firm.

Growing from philanthropic roots focused on its flagship donor advised fund, ImpactAssets now supports investors across both their philanthropic and investment portfolios.

“Through our SEC-registered subsidiary, Impact Assets Capital Partners, we are able to serve the increasingly complex and bespoke needs of institutional clients, giving them access to a wide array of market-rate and impact-first private investments,” said Margret Trilli, CEO and Chief Investment Officer of ImpactAssets and ImpactAssets Capital Partners. “With this expansion, ImpactAssets is deepening its ability to serve clients who want to activate all of their assets for impact — from charitable giving to investment.”

In 2024 alone, the firm executed 400+ private investment placements totaling $455 million and facilitated 13,500+ grants valued at close to $400 million. ImpactAssets has also fueled transformative change across a range of impact themes, including climate ($596 million), economic inclusion ($807 million), and health & wellness ($584 million), ensuring private capital is working in tandem with philanthropy to change the trajectory of our planet’s future and improve the lives of all people.

Highlights from the 2025 Impact Report include:

• Catalyzing Investments Where They’re Needed Most

Proprietary thematic funds are scaling solutions in environmental resilience and economic inclusion, using multi-asset class approaches to address systemic challenges. Identifying Impact Trends. ImpactAssets’ clients and partners are actively driving investments across key themes, from energy access and affordability for low-income communities, to nature-based solutions that harness oceans, forests, and wetlands to address climate change and biodiversity loss.

• Filling the Gaps Where Traditional Finance Falls Short

Last year, more than half of ImpactAssets’ private market investments were classified as impact-first — strategically allocated to prioritize measurable social and environmental outcomes, in addition to financial return. These investments leveraged flexible structures to accelerate solutions where traditional financing falls short.

• Driving the Industry Forward

With offerings such as advisory services, custom portfolios, the ImpactAssets Investment Platform, ImpactAssets Donor Advised Fund, and industry-leading initiatives such as the ImpactAssets 50, ImpactAssets continues to build the future of impact investing.

“While we’ve seen substantial change in 2025, impact investors remain confident that private markets continue to offer the greatest potential for driving innovation and real world impact,” Trilli said. “In partnership with our wide range of clients, the ImpactAssets team is committed to delivering on that potential and helping to move the needle on the world’s most significant challenges.”

Trends to Watch

Key impact investing trends are emerging as investors continue to deploy capital in innovative ways — and we’re seeing these in real time at ImpactAssets.

Impact-First Investments – Impact-first investments intentionally prioritize social and environmental outcomes, and often leverage flexible capital to accelerate solutions where traditional finance falls short. When such investments accept disproportionate risk or concessionary returns — also known as catalytic capital — they can play a critical role in advancing innovations and reaching underserved communities This is reflected in ImpactAssets’ 2024 investment activity, where more than half of private market impact investments (by count) were catalytic investments, primarily deployed through below-market-rate debt, hybrid instruments that provided flexible capital, and investments into emerging funds.

Nature-Based Solutions – Nature-based solutions harness ecosystems, such as forests, wetlands and oceans, to address the changing climate, biodiversity loss and community resilience. ImpactAssets’ clients are increasingly investing in nature-based solutions, with an emphasis on ocean health. With the ocean economy contributing $3-6T globally and supporting over three billion livelihoods, the impact potential is enormous. ImpactAssets’ investees are advancing sustainable aquaculture, marine conservation, plastic reduction, climate tech innovation and more.

Energy Abundance – Impact investors are increasingly prioritizing investments that improve energy access and affordability for low-income communities. Focusing on energy abundance helps ensure that all households have reliable access to power and can handle extreme weather and grid disruptions. By investing in community-centered solutions such as distributed energy, these investments can reduce energy insecurity, strengthen resilience and address long-standing inequities.

Multi-Donor Funds – Multi-Donor Funds pool contributions from philanthropists and impact investors who are passionate about the same issue areas and who want to invest in similar organizations and causes. By aligning around shared priorities, these funds reduce duplication, spread risk, and enable deeper, more coordinated impact to address root causes and spark systemic change. ImpactAssets has more than 900 donors who have made contributions to 30 Multi-Donor Funds spanning themes such as gender-lens investing, the creative economy and ocean health.
