Forbes Selects Green Century’s Leslie Samuelrich for Prestigious 50 Over 50 List
>> Back to September 2024 Issue
Leslie Samuelrich, President of Green Century Funds, was named to this year’s Forbes’ 50 Over 50 list in the investment category, joining the ranks of venture capitalists, wealth managers, philanthropists and others.
The list celebrates women who are pioneers in their fields, leveraging their age and experience as tools for success. The thousands of nominations are narrowed down to 200 finalists in four categories of impact, innovation, investment and lifestyle. This is the fourth year of the annual list, and it highlights women who are hitting peaks during life’s second half.
“I am delighted to have been chosen for this recognition and look forward to meeting other prominent changemakers in the fall,” she said. “Green Century applauds the dedication and effort of those involved in this endeavor.”
The list was produced over five months in partnership with Mika Brzezinski and her Know Your Value initiative. A team of Forbes reporters, editors, industry experts, alums and others chose the finalists for the 50 Over 50 list. An October event in New York City will celebrate the women picked for the list.
More from Forbes on their new 50 Over 50 List
Age is your best asset. Just ask any of the entrepreneurs, investors, inventors and artists on our fourth annual 50 Over 50 list. Some, like venture capitalists Miriam Rivera and Mar Hershenson, are using their wisdom to fund the next class of unicorn startups. Others, like philanthropists Ruth Gottesman and Melinda French Gates, are mobilizing billions of dollars towards the most pressing causes of 2024. All of them—200 in total, spread across four categories—are proving that success and innovation have no age limit.
Compiling the final list is a daunting process that is only possible through Forbes’ partnership with Mika Brzezinski, cohost of Morning Joe and founder of Know Your Value, who used her platform at MSNBC to discover candidates, publicize the project and solicit nominations. Those names were added to the thousands of others we gathered through Forbes.com, on social media and from our staff journalists.
To cull that huge group down to the final 200 we asked some tough questions: What are your greatest “Over 50” accomplishments? Did you step into a new or more powerful role later in life? Did you make a big pivot? Are you achieving at scale? Once the answer to those questions was “yes,” a group of semifinalists was sent to 7 expert judges—a panel of list alumnae that included entrepreneurs Suze Orman and Laura Geller, venture capitalist Theresia Gouw, and AnitaB.org president Brenda Darden Wilkerson.
The result from this work is a collection of groundbreaking women who understand that age and experience can be the best tools for success—and that, ultimately, there is no deadline for becoming who you are meant to be.
The four Categories for the 50 Over 50 List are: Lifestyle – Visionaries reshaping entertainment and culture. Impact – Changemakers leaving the world a little better than they found it. Innovation – Disruptors breaking new technological grounds. Investment – Rainmakers commanding wealth and seeding the future. See the full list of winners here.
